Abava is a river of Latvia, the largest tributary of the Venta River. It flows through Tukums, Talsi and Kuldiga districts. Length - Length - 129 km, basin area - 2030 km2. 50% of basin covered by forests.

Its valley was submitted for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.[1]

Characterictics of the river

Runs out of Lestene-ENAV marsh, Eastern Highlands east side, 54 meters above sea level. Top Abava is straightened, flows in northerly direction. At Kandava turns to the west and the estuary to a lot of curves. The overall decline - 51 meter. River has a number of dolomite rapids with the velocity of 2 m / sec. The river is the place of the second largest waterfall in Latvia, Abava Waterfall (Latvian: Abavas rumba).[2]
